Today, I was looking for pictures in a “Google” search of the word WORSHIP. This is what I was inundated with:
We see the lights, the stages and yes, the hands lifted. And, although I understand the concept and agree it is about the children of God coming together to worship God, if this is the image that describes worship in our society, it paints a very shallow picture, in my opinion.
Is there another image of worship that we should be seeing? Is there another concept of worship that we are missing and that should be communicated?
Here is a beautiful depiction of worship
…..and again here…..
And the most beautiful……
Do you see the difference?
If worship is not first THIS, it can never be the other.
If it is not, first, our lives in surrender every day, it can never be our hands lifted in public profession.
We surrender on our knees. In tears. In lamentations.
We surrender like our Master, Jesus. Hebrews talks about Him like this in chapter five, verse seven……”who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,”.
Jesus lived a life of submission and that is the true place of worship. After all, the highest place of worship is in the lowest place. On our face, bowing our hearts.
Let us follow Jesus, our example, in worship.
Let His place of worship be the constant posture of our hearts.
