HANDS (A Tribute to My Mother)

Day by day
She served and mourned
Such pretty hands
Such sorrowful form
Eyes deep with hope lost
Such hope lost for herself
But saved for her babies

Oh when she looked at them
Hope alive
With promise
Told them of a confidence
She did not yet process
But one day would
Fierce and strong
Would not relent
A woman’s heart
A well of strength

Holding on for a day
That would come
And would come
With a vengeance
A recompense
Dreams wild and unleashed
Legacy dancing
On the pain that held her                                                                                                                      While those hands served

Those hands
Rings on her finger
Always twirling
I loved to watch them
Hold them
Feel them

That held it together
While dreams fell apart
Hands that waved goodbye
One day
To the tyranny
The shame
The slight of heart
The cold dark
The cold heart
That railed at her
Put her down
Pushed her aside
Killed her spirit
But it revived
Oh yes it did
