A Mother’s Thoughts Before Bed

It’s a challenge to think of your adult children as anyone other than the babies you carried, nursed and rocked to sleep on this hard days and nights. As anyone other than the children you got off to school, played hide and seek with or taught them to tie their shoes. Or the teens you thought you’d never survive (lol). But here they are grown with children of their own doing the same things and the cycle of life goes on. But when they age enough to become your best friends as adults, it’s hard to see them as anything else. And then they become old enough to be adults longer than they were kids and that’s when everything changes. Their baby selves get further and further away from our memories and we begin to make memories of a different life, an adult life that’s rich and joyful and filled with understanding beyond what we could ever teach them. Then our arms are filled with their babies and life goes on and on and on into this big beautiful tapestry of a blessed life that God has given and our gratitude is expressed in laughter, tears and song!!
